Whimsical Garden Wedding at Piper Palm House
This wedding at Piper Palm House in St. Louis was full of intention. Working with Trinity Griffin Events, Suzi and Chris created a day inspired by their historic venue, with touches of whimsy. We had the honor of designing their semi-custom invitations and day-of stationery. This wedding was “local” to us—we’re based two hours north of St. Louis—which made the creative process even more fun!
Suzi and Chris, both art historians, brought a unique perspective to their wedding planning journey. The couple met in graduate school at the University of Iowa, and it was important to them that their wedding day reflected their story. The Piper Palm House, built in 1878, was a meaningful choice for their venue because Chris studies 19th-century art. Additionally, they wanted their stationery to feature floral designs that reflected their shared interest in Baroque and Rococo art. There’s something so special about a wedding with carefully chosen details, and that’s exactly what this day was.

Piper Palm House: A Historic St. Louis Wedding Venue
Nestled in sprawling Tower Grove Park on St. Louis’ south side, Piper Palm House is a lush oasis for weddings and events. The historic space is the oldest greenhouse west of the Mississippi River, and houses a variety of plants. Towering palm trees line either side of the conservatory, which overlooks a serene pond covered with water lilies in the summertime. Tall, arched windows and a vaulted ceiling with a skylight provide ample natural light.
After Suzi and Chris chose Piper Palm House as their venue, they decided to incorporate the space’s garden-like feel into their wedding design. Suzi spent hours poring over rental options and floral moodboards to bring her vision of the tablescapes to life. The result couldn’t have been more stunning! Les Bouquets provided the peach and ivory floral centerpieces, which contrasted beautifully with the color-coordinated linens and china plates—sky blue on some tables and sage green on others. Meanwhile, the golden tableware sparkled in the light of the antique pendants on the ceiling.

Rococo-Inspired Wedding Stationery with a Playful Side
Suzi and Chris came to me with a clear vision. They wanted elegant and timeless wedding invitations, but with enough personality that they didn’t feel overly formal. We avoided collections that featured monograms or cursive script, and eventually landed on the Jane Suite: the perfect balance between sophistication and playfulness. Jane’s dusty blue color palette, delicate botanicals, and toile-patterned envelope liner hinted at the couple’s love of 18th-century art and Suzi’s fondness for flowers.
For a luxurious, tactile feel, we used letterpress printing on the invitations. We also provided the couple’s seating chart, place cards, table numbers, menus, and thank-you notes—all from the Jane Collection to ensure a cohesive look. We were thrilled when Suzi told us how much she loved the detail shots and flatlays captured by Emily Broadbent Photography!

Suzi and Chris’s wedding at Piper Palm House was the kind of celebration we love to design for. From the storied setting to the playful florals, every detail told a piece of the couple’s story.
