The Ultimate Guide to Floral Wedding Invitations

From dainty pastel wildflowers to bold colorful blooms, it’s hard to go wrong with floral wedding invitations! But if you’ve just set out on your planning journey, you may not be familiar with all your options for incorporating floral artwork into your wedding invitation suite. As a stationery designer, I’ve dreamed up dozens of floral-forward designs. And today, I’m taking you through all the ways you can include florals in your wedding invitations and day-of stationery. Let’s dive in!

I want floral wedding invitations! What are my design options?

Florals are a popular design element on wedding invitations because they can fit any wedding style (vintage, modern, boho, you name it!). It’s all about the artwork style and the colors used! There are also many different ways to incorporate florals into a design, whether boldly or subtly. Let’s explore a few of them:

  • Border/Frame: Framing your invitation with florals is a sure way to make it stand out! You can opt for a partial frame of dainty blooming vines, as seen in the Samantha, or a wider border of colorful florals, as seen in the Jasmine.

  • Wreath: A floral wreath looks lovely at the top of an invitation and can be circular or square. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to incorporate your wedding monogram, as in the Hannah collection, where the soft florals wrap gently around the couple’s initials for a timeless, elegant look.

  • Crest: Likewise, you can incorporate florals into the design of your wedding crest. The Madison is a good example of this! It’s ideal for couples who love classic style but want to keep things warm and personal.

  • Coordinating Pieces: The invitation itself is just one element of a full wedding invitation suite! Your details card, RSVP card, and envelope are all other opportunities to incorporate coordinating flower accents. Some of my designs, like the Sophia, feature artwork that differently shows the flowers (how cute is the little vase on this welcome party invitation?).

  • Match Your Wedding Flowers: Watercolor flowers can mimic the style of the flowers you will use at your wedding. Your guests will have an exciting glimpse into your big day when they open their invitations!

  • On the Back: Florals aren’t just for the front of your wedding invitation! Several of my collections, including the Gwen, feature florals on the back of the design for a playful touch. This is an unexpected surprise for guests, since normally the back of the invitations is left blank!  It’s little surprises like this that make your stationery feel personal and memorable.

  • Envelope Liner: If you’re looking for a small touch with big impact, floral envelope liners are one of my favorite details. They add a burst of color the moment your guests open the envelope and set the tone for what’s inside. The Hannah and Sophia collections both feature this unexpected detail!

  • Minimalism: Love florals but want something more understated?  Line-drawn florals, as seen in the Samantha and Jane collections, look clean and sophisticated. Plus, you can change the ink color to match your day!

  • Maximalism: On the flip side, if you believe more is more, especially when it comes to flowers, our bold floral designs bring serious drama. The Ophelia, Katrina, and Grace collections feature large watercolor florals for a maximalist look.

Can I use floral illustrations on my day-of stationery, like menus and signage?

Absolutely! We carry the same theme throughout every piece of each of our collections. The goal is for each day-of item to support the overall invitation design without looking like a direct copy. For example, the Samantha menu and place card designs borrow the same line-drawn florals used in the invitation design, but without the elaborate border.
